The purpose of the Mondrian edit project is to make all letters and theoretical writings of Piet Mondrian available as a resource to science and the public at large. By doing so, RKD and Huygens Institute want to complete and correct the existing image of the artist and his works, as well as of the reception and dissemination of it.

Research

As part of this project, circa 1,700 letters and 75 theoretical writings of Mondrian will be transcribed, annotated and translated into English. Also the works of art and reference documents that Mondrian refers to in his letters, such as the portraits and atelier pictures, are scientifically opened up for access in the project. It will result in a virtually complete reflection of the life of this artist, who died in New York on 1 February 1944.

Collaboration

The Mondrian Edit project is a collaboration of the RKD and Huygens Institute, with partners at home and abroad, including the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. The project is also facilitated through financial support from the Gieskes-Strijbis Fund, the Stichting Dioraphte and the International Music and Art Foundation.
