Biography

Sebastiaan Derks is Head of the Department of Data Management at the Huygens Institute. In this role, he directs a range of projects that focus on providing online resources and tools for humanities scholars.

He studied Early Modern History at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. His research interests lie in the political culture of sixteenth-century Europe, particularly the dynastic power structures in northern Italy. He has held fellowships at the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome and at the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, University of California, Los Angeles. He is currently writing a dissertation on the sovereignty and dynasticism of the Farnese dukes of Parma and Piacenza in the sixteenth century.
