Biography

Henna Goudzand studied Dutch Language and Literature and Literary Studies. She writes fiction for children and adults, focusing in the past few years on the history of slavery and its after-effects. This includes the two volumes she produced with Michiel van Kempen, Professor of Caribbean Literature, of two important works of Surinamese literature for the Text in Context series of Amsterdam University Press.

In 2009, as publisher and editor-in-chief, she founded ‘Oer Digitaal Vrouwenblad‘ with the intention of creating a platform for several years where women with and without a history of migration could meet on emancipatory, cultural, social and philosophical issues.

Within the Huygens Institute, she is working on a historical-critical text edition of Anton de Tom’s ‘We slaves of Suriname’, the first written historical publication on colonialism and slavery from the Dutch colonies.
