You may have already noticed the pop-up. Somewhere on the screen, we ask you to participate in a short survey about our website. Participation is voluntary and without obligation. How can we improve our website?
The Huygens Institute is conducting research to improve our website. For example, we would like to know why you visit our website, what you think of our website and how we can improve it.
Surveys and interviews
We are conducting the research in two ways: we are holding a short survey on the website and we are conducting interviews. You can sign up for an interview via the survey.

GDPR and privacy
If you sign up for an interview, you will see below how your personal data will be processed. By signing up, you automatically give your consent. The research is also being conducted for the Meertens Institute, with which the Huygens Institute collaborates closely within the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

2. Information research
Creation of a website where the datasets and collections of the Huygens and Meertens institutes can be found.
3. Processing of your personal data
Your data will be processed during your participation in this survey. The purpose of the survey is:
– To identify users’ wishes for new a website in which datasets and collections of the Huygens and Meertens Institutes are made available, and the renewal of the Meertens Institute website.
To achieve this goal, the following data is processed:
– Your email address is processed
4. What does participation in the study entail?
Participation in the interview, with the aim of gaining insight into how people search for datasets, and into the underlying motivation and wishes.
The expected duration of participation is between 30 and 45 minutes. Interviews will generally take place online via video call. Participation is voluntary.
5. Withdrawal of consent to participate
You may withdraw your consent to participate in the study at any time and without reason. There are no adverse consequences associated with this. To withdraw your consent, please contact the researcher.
The data processed up to the moment you withdraw your consent will still be used in the study. For this use, if the study allows it, the personal data will be anonymized or pseudonymized.
Your rights
When your data is processed, you have various privacy rights that you can exercise:
– Right to information;
– Right of access;
– Right to rectification;
– Right to erasure;
– Right to restriction of processing;
– Right to data portability;
– Right to object;
– Right to human intervention in decision-making processes.
When your data is processed for research purposes, some of the above rights may be restricted. If you would like to know more about this, please contact the researcher.
6. Access to your data
Access to your data is in principle limited to the researcher and his or her team. If third-party services are used during the research, your data may be shared with these parties to the extent necessary for the conduct of the research.
7. Storing your data
Your data will be stored securely during the study. Your email address will only be used to schedule and conduct the interview and will be deleted by June 1, 2026, at the latest. After the interview has been completed, the data will be anonymized if possible. If anonymization is not possible, additional measures will be taken to protect your data.
