Queer History Month

Location Multiple locations + online

March is dedicated to the sixth edition of Queer History Month, organized by IHLIA, a Dutch heritage organization with the largest LGBTI+ collection in Europe, in collaboration with various cultural institutions. Together, they offer a platform that focuses on the celebration and transmission of LGBTIQ+ histories, stories, and achievements.

The Queer History Month website features the complete program of activities related to queer history. New objects will be added to the online collection throughout the month.

Contribution from the Huygens Institute

This year, researchers from the Huygens Institute and the Meertens Institute are jointly contributing to the expansion of the database on the platform. This online collection brings together queer-themed objects from museum and archive collections in the Netherlands, with the aim of creating a virtual queer museum.

Digital tools for researching LGBTIQ+ history

The Huygens Institute specializes in digitizing historical sources and making them accessible for scholars and a wider audience. Thanks to digital research tools, these sources can be better searched for individuals and groups that have been underrepresented in historiography, such as the LGBTIQ+ community.
