Globalise Round Table Session
The changing archive: digitisation, translation and research into the early modern Indian Ocean world
How is the historical archive changing in the age of digitisation and AI? During this online round table meeting, researchers will discuss how digital tools, such as transcription technology and translation tools, offer new opportunities for studying the early modern Indian Ocean world. Register now.
This round table session ties in with the GLOBALISE digital infrastructure project, which makes the VOC archives more accessible and builds on the series of Rijks Geschiedkundige Publicatiën (RGP).
GLOBALISE is a project of the Huygens Institute in collaboration with the International Institute of Social History, the Digital Infrastructure department of the KNAW Humanities Cluster, VU University Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam and the National Archives.
Speakers will discuss changes in source editing, contextualisation and translation, and what “opening the archive” means for researchers, the public and communities affected by colonial history.
