Baroque music with a scientific backdrop
On Saturday 28 March 2026, Ineke Huysman, affiliated with the Huygens Institute, together with historian Femke Deen and baroque ensemble La Sfera Armoniosa, will bring the influential women of the Low Countries to life in words, images and music. The programme, inspired by the book Moeders des Vaderlands. De vrouwen die de Nederlanden vormden (Atlas Contact, 2024), contains stories about Margaret of Austria, Amalia of Solms, Anna of Hanover and other powerful women, interspersed with music by female composers such as Hildegard von Bingen and Barbara Strozzi, and court music from the time of Constantijn Huygens, Monteverdi and Handel. On Saturday 25 April 2026, Ineke Huysman will give a performance with baroque ensemble La Sfera Armoniosa about Constantijn Huygens, his music, his letters and his hobby of perfumery. The performance will take place in the Waalse Kerk in Amsterdam.
