Agneta Lecture 2026: Antia Wiersma on 70 years of legal capacity
On Sunday, 8 March 2026, Museum Vlaardingen will host its annual Agneta Lecture, this year focusing on the theme of 70 years of legal capacity for women. In 1956, women in the Netherlands were granted the right to make independent decisions about their money, work and legal affairs. This was an important milestone in the history of emancipation.

The lecture will be given by Antia Wiersma, director of the Royal Netherlands Historical Society (KNHG). She will talk about the feminist Lilian Posthumus-van der Goot (1897–1989) and highlight how her impressive career and commitment to women’s rights took shape despite the limitations of her time.
After the lecture, there will be a dialogue with local political parties about plans and ideas for the position of women in Vlaardingen society.
The Agneta Lecture will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (doors open at 2.30 p.m.) at Museum Vlaardingen. Tickets are available via the museum website.
