Innovating history

Going back to the source: unraveling history with new technology. This is the mission of Huygens ING, a research institute of History and Culture. We intend to accomplish this mission by stimulating inspiring research and producing innovative tools to open up old and inaccessible sources, and to understand them better. Huygens ING focuses on History, History of Science, and Textual Scholarship. Our mission and research explained in under five minutes.

Diplomatieke correspondentie Johan de Witt online

Op 14 maart 2019 stelt het Huygens Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis de eerste zevenduizend brieven van Johan de Witt online beschikbaar. De brieven worden ontsloten in samenwerking met het Nationaal Archief, Oxford Universityen de Bodleian Library.

Unleashing Big Data of the Past – Europe builds a Time Machine

The European Commission has chosen Time Machine as one of the six proposals retained for preparing large scale research initiatives to be strategically developed in the next decade. Huygens ING and International Institute of Social History (partners in the KNAW Humanities Cluster) are closely involved in this project.
