Open Call: Thijssen-Schoute Fellowship 2027

 

The Dr. C. Louise Thijssen-Schoute Foundation (website) encourages research into the history of ideas, with a special focus on the seventeenth century and the Dutch Republic. Each year, a fellowship is awarded to a young researcher who wishes to develop research in this field. The fellowship is offered in collaboration with the Knowledge and Art Practices research group at the Huygens Institute. Submissions will be accepted up to 15 May 2026.

As a fellow, you will work in an inspiring environment that focuses broadly on knowledge and art practices in texts, objects and collaborations. The Knowledge and Art Practices research group is open to original, practice-oriented and experimental research.

What do we offer?

• Stipend: €2,000 per month for three months
• Period: your research will take place in 2027
• Place of work: Knowledge and Art Practices research group at the Huygens Institute (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), presence required at least three days a week
• Accountability: brief project report at the end of the fellowship

Who is it for?

• PhD students at an advanced stage
• Recent PhD graduates (PhD defence no more than 3 years ago)

Dr. C. Louise Thijssen-Schoute (1904-1961) was an influential Dutch linguist and historian who conducted groundbreaking research into the history of ideas in the seventeenth century. Shortly before her death, she established the foundation to promote this research.
