Historical Food Preservation: A Seminar Series

This monthly seminar series is presented by the New York Botanical Garden’s Humanities Institute (NYBG) and the Huygens Institute for Dutch History and Culture and deals with a question that has fascinated people for thousands of years: how do we preserve food? Historians in the fields of science, art and capitalism will participate in these discussions and approach this issue from a multidisciplinary and transregional perspective.

The sessions are scheduled for 25 February, 25 March, 29 April, 6 June and 24 June. The session of 27 May has been moved to 24 June.

This series is moderated by Dr. Marieke Hendriksen (Huygens Institute) and Dr. Lucas Mertehikian (NYBG), and coordinated by Ph.D. (c) Edurne De Wilde (Huygens Institute/Leiden University).
