War in Court goes national

Digital CABR now also available regionally

From Monday 2 February 2026, researchers and interested parties will be able to visit twelve additional locations in the Netherlands to search the digitised section of the Central Archive for Special Criminal Justice (CABR), according to the National Archives. Until now, digital searches were only possible in The Hague. The expansion includes the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Regional Archives.

The CABR contains files on people who were investigated after the Second World War for collaboration with the German occupiers and offers valuable sources for historical and family research.

Researchers and interested parties can reserve a place in advance at the participating institutions. As not everything has been digitised yet, it is advisable to first check whether the desired file has already been scanned.

The Huygens Institute is responsible for the technology that makes the CABR archive accessible and searchable. This includes text recognition, document classification and document separation.

Visit the National Archives website for locations and registration.
