Biography

Joke Roelevink took a master in the history of the Middle ages and in modern history at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. In 1986 a doctor’s degree (cum laude) was conferred for her thesis on the teaching of history at the University of Utrecht between 1735 and 1839, for which she was also awarded the research prize of the Stichting Praemium Erasmianum Foundation in 1988. She has been employed at Huygens ING and its predecessors since 1978. She has worked on the edition of the Resolutiën van de Staten-Generaal 1610-1670, the edition of the acts of the classes of the Reformed Church from the reformation to 1621 and on various projects on concerning the Batavian-French era. She was also for a number of years a member of the staff and the co-ordinator of the 1550-1813 section. At present her Repertorium van genootschappen van wapenhandel, schutterijen, sociëteiten en gezelschappen van Patriotten en Prinsgezinden van 1783 tot 1798 nears completion. She now concentrates on ecclesiastical history of early modern times, especially in connection with the international project Critical edition of the Acts of the Synod of Dordrecht 1618-1619. Moreover she studies the eighteenth century antecedents and the functioning of the church statute introduced by king William I for the Netherlands Reformed church, in its context of state, church and civil society.
