The Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands (“Huygens ING”) is one of the institutes under the auspices of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW, “the Academy”). It studies texts and sources from the past using new methods and technology. The institute promotes innovation in research methods and also a better understanding of Dutch culture and history among the general public. It has a staff of about 100 and a turnover of approximately EUR 6.5 million. Software development is an important part of many of the projects. Huygens ING is located in the Spinhuis at Oudezijds Achterburgwal 185 in the centre of Amsterdam.

Employee Collections for 0.8 FTE (30.4 hours per week).

The International Institute of Social History has a large and diverse collection of archives, books, magazines, visual and audio material and digital sources in the field of social history and social movements, from around 1500 to the present day. In order to be able to process all that different material more efficiently and better and make it usable for researchers, we are working on a number of projects, including the use of new digital humanities techniques and tools (NER, data mining, speech recognition, linked data). For coordinating, executive and supporting work related to these projects, we are looking for an Employee Collections for the International Institute of Social History (IISH) for 0.8 FTE (30.4 hours per week).
