Gerrit Achterberg (1905-1962) is considered one of the most important and remarkable poets of Dutch Literature. He published thirty works after his first, Afvaart, appeared in 1931. His Collected Poems (1963), has sold well past the 50,000 mark.
Achterberg was a poet who seemingly never stopped changing and enhancing his poems, from the original notes to revisions in the proofs. Where possible, the developmental history of every poem is documented in three parts: Texts, Commentary and Footnotes.
