Jeroen van Veldhoven is a PhD candidate at the Huygens Institute. His PhD research focuses on the role of trade unions and employers’ associations in the rise of flexible work in the Netherlands since the 1980s. The study is part of the GaK-funded project Flexible work in the Dutch polder, 1950-2020 under the supervision of Prof. Lex Heerma van Voss and Dr Jeroen Touwen.

During his studies at Leiden University, Jeroen specialised in the political economy of labour market development. In January 2019, he obtained (cum laude) a master’s degree in Public Administration: Economics and Governance with a thesis on the effects of parental employment stimulation policies on child poverty in the Netherlands. Later that year, he also concluded (cum laude) a research master in Social and Economic History with a thesis on the role of employers’ associations in the creation of sectoral (1918-1937) and centralised collective bargaining (1944-1954) in the Netherlands.
