Biography

Marnix van Berchum is the product owner at Timbuctoo-Anansi (CLARIAH WP2). He coordinates development of the software and inputting of new data, and coordinates developments around the data models in the system.

Marnix studied musicology at Utrecht University. He specialises in the musical culture of the 15th and 16th centuries; his graduation thesis was on the motets of Jachet Berchem (c. 1505–1567). In his PhD research he is applying the concepts and methods of network theory to the dissemination of music in the sixteenth century. In previous positions (including with SURF and DANS), he gained broad experience in projects concerning research data, open access, and digital musicology. Marnix is a member of the board of the Royal Society for Music History of the Netherlands (KVNM) (www.kvnm.nl) and Associate Director of the CMME Project (Computerised Mensural Music Editing) (www.cmme.org).
