
In accordance with the historiographical trend of the past decades, research in the history of science at Huygens ING focuses on the question of how knowledge is being shaped and passed on over the long term. How do various forms of knowledge spread and transform, on their way towards general recognition? Hoe does knowledge get forgotten again? How does knowledge accumulate, for instance though phenomena like the growth of disciplines, progressive codification of knowledge and its storage in libraries and archives?
