She has worked at various education institutions and research institutes including Utrecht University, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. From 1984 to 1990 she worked at the Office for the Basic Provision of Text Editions (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences), one of the predecessors of Huygens ING.

Since 19992 she has held various positions linked to Huygens ING. Currently, she is a senior researcher in the Literature department. She has also been an endowed chair professor of Scholarly Editing at VU University Amsterdam since 2006. She is mainly focusing on issues surrounding the publication of correspondence in a digital context and the importance to the Humanities of access to (digital) sources. She is elaborating this in the Het Web van Tachtig project, an online publication of the correspondence of writers and artists of the Beweging van Tachtig (Movement of the Eighties), one of the most influential cultural-historical movements in Dutch history. In addition, together with several colleagues, she is working on a new digital Scholarly Editing Manual in which attention will be paid to recent developments in the fields of textual scholarship and source texts.
